I have a wide range of interests, including data, board games, and travel. Find out more about what I like below.
Data
Data is not just my profession, it is my passion. I like being able to turn something that interests me into a spreadsheet, or to come up with new ways to visualize it. You can find me on Kaggle, which I use for both professional and personal purposes. I am not a software developer, but I occasionally write bits of code that I publish on GitHub if I deem them useful for others.
Board Games
I'm an avid board games player. To me, board games are the perfect combination of an intellectual challenge, competition, and social gathering. I most enjoy strategic resource management games, often dubbed 'Eurogames'. My favorites include:
Aside from playing board games I like to think about game design. I love to learn about new game mechanisms, components, and visuals. I keep a log of the games I have played on BoardGameGeek. If you can recommend a game that I do not know about yet, I would be happy to hear about it.
Travel
I enjoy traveling, although I haven't been able to travel as much as I would like since the beginning of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in 2020. When I visit new places, I like to get a feel for the people and their culture, rather than see the tourist hot spots. I always try to connect with locals and share in bits of their daily lives.
For this purpose I used to be very active on the CouchSurfing hospitality network, before it got taken over by commercial interests. I both stayed with and hosted many travelers, exchanged stories and ideas, and organized local events for the community. My CouchSurfing profile still exists and can be found here, but I don't actively use the platform any longer; it serves only as a monument to the past.
Other
In addition to the above interests I like reading, philosophy, economics, science, technology, history, cooking, wine, whisky, running, and hiking.
